We are officially  a "Texas Children's Miracle Family" for the Children's Miracle Network!  We will participate in television and radio fundraisers, newspaper and magazine articles and share our story with the world!  I am so very honored that Texas Children's Hospital and the Children's Miracle Network has given us this amazing opportunity!  We are very excited and can't wait to see what's in store!

Trevor seen Dr. Ronda Alexander yesterday at the UT voice clinic in Houston.  She put a scope down to look at his vocal cords and told us that yes, he does have limited function of both vocal cords.  Also, his airway does not open up completely, so it is some-what restricted.  However....since he is not having ANY issues, such as trouble talking, breathing or eating, she advised that we wait to have any procedures done!  She said that if he begins to show signs of trouble with any of the above mentioned, then we should come back and we will reevaluate.  If he continues to do well, we can wait until he is 4-5 years old and reevaluate at that time! I am so happy that he does not need any type of medical procedures done right now, and I am CONFIDENT that by the time he is 4-5 yrs old, he will have "fixed" this problem and not need anything done then either.  Overall, Dennis and I were VERY excited at the report she gave us!

Today Trevor seen an ENT for a follow-up due to his left vocal cord paralysis.  When he was just a few weeks old, we were told that his left vocal cord was completely paralyzed and it was more than likely a permanent thing.  It was caused from the surgery he had for PDA.  The vocal nerves are very close to the area of the heart  where the surgery was performed (I never knew that), and most likely one of the nerves were cut during the surgery.  We were warned before the surgery that this MAY occur, but it was a small chance.

Anyway, I expected to walk into the ENT with Trevor and them hear how loud and plain he talks, and them look at me like I was crazy, give me great news...and be done with it.  Unfortunately, that was not the case today.  Dr. Parks put a small scope in through his nose and placed it down by his vocal cords to watch the movement and see if the left one had made any improvement.  Imagine my shock and surprise when he told us that neither of Trevor's vocal cords are functioning properly.  They are both moving some, but not as much as they should be.  There is also another mechanism in the voice box area that is moving, which SHOULDN'T be moving, if the vocal cords have any type of paralysis.  He told us he was confused and couldn't figure out a reason for this.  He is referring Trevor to a specialist in Houston who primarily deals with vocal cord paralysis, for further testing.  I asked Dr. Parks if neither of Trevor's vocal cords are working properly, then how is he able to talk so well?  He told me he couldn't explain it, and that's why he is sending us to Houston.  The specialist is not at Texas Children's.  She is in a very large private practice in the Medicial Center of Texas.  It's on Fannin, so it's close to TCH.

I just don't know what to make of all this.  Like Dr. Parks, I'm confused.   Does this mean his paralysis has healed on the left side, but is developing on the right?  Is this going to progressively get worse, and he will not be able to talk in the future???  Does he need surgery?    I wish I could have had those questions answered today, but I couldn't.  His appointment with the specialist (DR. Ronda Alexander)  is Monday June 20th at 1pm.    Until then, PLEASE, PLEASE pray that we get good news next Monday.  To me it sounds kinda like good news because the left one is moving some, but it scares me
